Gamers eagerly await two major gaming events in the coming months. The official Nintendo Switch 2 launch event and Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) release, both expected to happen later this year.
While an official announcement from Rockstar is still pending, some stores have started selling preorders for GTA 6, including Swiss retailer Brack.ch. According to the leaked page, the PS5 version of the game would cost 99.00 CHF, which translates to around $112. However, taking into account VAT and inflation, a straight currency conversion may yield a lower US price.
Assuming the leak is accurate, a starting price of $100 for GTA 6 becomes more plausible. Brack.ch later removed the preorder page, possibly due to a mistake while preparing for official preorders. The retailer’s interaction with customers suggests the listed price might be the actual price Rockstar plans to charge.
Other retailers have also listed GTA 6 preorders before an official announcement, including one in Malaysia that asked customers to pay around $3 to reserve a copy. This practice helps gauge interest and ensure accurate demand before placing orders with Rockstar.
In comparison to other AAA games, GTA 6’s price might not seem steep, considering the game was priced around $50 in 1997 when adjusted for inflation. The Nintendo Switch 2’s games, on the other hand, may start at $70, slightly higher than exclusive titles released for the first-gen console.
As a result, gamers will have to come to terms with potential price hikes across various titles this year, including GTA 6 and others set to launch for PS5, Xbox, and Switch.
