Stowaway Woman Evades Security, Bypasses Checkpoints on Paris Flight

A 57-year-old Russian woman was able to sneak onto a flight from New York to Paris by jumping into different security lines. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) says she first bypassed an airport employee and then joined the line for standard TSA screening. She avoided stations where her ID and boarding pass would have been checked.

The incident occurred at John F. Kennedy International Airport, which screened nearly 2.7 million passengers on a holiday weekend before Thanksgiving. The woman was due to leave France on a flight but was refused by Delta Air Lines, delaying her return trip until Wednesday.

She is now scheduled to fly back to New York with French security officials on a Delta flight. French authorities previously removed her from the plane after she started screaming and claimed she did not want to return to the US. The TSA has prepared a civil case against the stowaway after reviewing airport security video.

The agency’s spokesperson said that while it occasionally sees people who skip the identity verification stage, electronic gates might be a solution to prevent such incidents.
