Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett has agreed to stay with the team by signing a long-term extension. Now, he’s tasked with helping bring in free agents, including quarterback Russell Wilson. However, during a media appearance on Friday, Garrett’s sales pitch to Wilson left much to be desired.
When asked about his approach to recruiting Wilson, Garrett quipped, “I won’t take him to the ground 3-4 times a year.” The comment may have been meant as a lighthearted way of highlighting the Browns’ defensive prowess, but it fell flat. Instead, it raised questions about the team’s ability to protect its quarterbacks.
The Browns are still in search of a veteran quarterback to take over under center next season. While they could draft one, they’re opting for a bridge solution. Wilson has impressive credentials, having made 11 starts for the Steelers last year and throwing for 2,482 yards with 16 touchdowns and five interceptions. It’s unclear if Garrett’s sales pitch will be enough to persuade Wilson to join the Browns.
