Wendy Williams Urges Guardianship Exit on ‘The View’

Media personality Wendy Williams has expressed her desire to exit her guardianship during a recent appearance on ABC’s daytime talk show “The View.”

Wendy Williams, 60, spoke out about the guardianship that has been in place since 2023 after she was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia. However, Williams disputes the diagnoses made by her guardian, Sabrina Morrissey.

Williams claims she is not incapacitated and wants to regain control over her life. She currently resides in a memory care unit but expressed frustration with the guardianship system, stating “I don’t have it” when asked about her incapacitation.

The TV legend also spoke candidly about her past struggles, including her divorce from ex-husband Kevin Hunter Sr., who helped build her media empire. Williams recently had a welfare check by the NYPD due to concerns over her mental capacity.

In an interview on Friday’s episode of “The View,” Williams expressed her desire to be independently tested and take control of her life. The show’s co-hosts thanked Williams for giving them their start in their careers, including Joy Behar, who hosted Wendy’s radio show before joining the panel.

Williams’ guardianship has sparked controversy among her fans, known as “Wendy Watchers.” The situation remains ongoing, with USA TODAY reaching out to Williams’ guardian and caretaker for comment.
