Google is set to replace its virtual assistant Google Assistant with Gemini on Android phones later this year. The company announced the change in a blog post, stating that more users will be upgraded to Gemini over the coming months.
As of next year, Google Assistant will no longer be accessible on most mobile devices or available for download from app stores. However, it will continue to operate on tablets, cars, and other connected devices such as headphones and watches until further notice.
To prepare users for the change, Google has improved Gemini’s features ahead of time, including music playback, timer support, and actions directly from the lock screen. The company believes Gemini offers more advanced capabilities than Assistant and provides new ways to get help and information through tools like Gemini Live and Deep Research.
