Measles, once considered eliminated in the US, has seen a significant resurgence due to declining vaccination rates. The highly contagious disease requires at least 95% of a community to be vaccinated to prevent outbreaks. However, Texas has recently witnessed a serious outbreak with couple deaths, highlighting the country’s low vaccination threshold. In Australia, the trend is also evident, with a decline in vaccination levels seen nationwide and most states below the required rate for kindergartners. Professor Margie Danchin, a leading pediatrician and vaccine expert, attributes this decline to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has led to a significant drop in vaccination rates across both countries.
