UK Man’s Fight for Life After Cancer Diagnosis

A British man, Des Longstaff, is fighting for more time with his young son after being diagnosed with a massive 35cm tumour in his lower oesophagus. The cancer has spread to his liver, severely limiting treatment options. Initially, he hoped for keyhole surgery but was told by doctors that the cancer had already spread.

Currently, Longstaff is undergoing immunotherapy and chemotherapy, which are not curative. He has been given just 12 months to live by the NHS. Des’s family is now exploring alternative treatments in Germany, where they hope advanced medical procedures can extend his life expectancy.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to raise funds for the treatment, which includes a highly targeted chemotherapy injection and surgical removal of the tumour. The fundraiser has already collected over £31,000 towards the goal of £43,000. Despite the grim prognosis, Longstaff is determined to fight for more time with his son, saying it’s his only chance to see him grow up.
