The Federal Trade Commission has walked back its comments requesting a delay in the upcoming trial over Amazon’s Prime program. In a statement, FTC Chair Andrew Ferguson said his agency is fully prepared to litigate the case despite budgetary and staffing shortfalls. Earlier, lawyer Jonathan Cohen had asked a federal judge for a delay citing resource constraints, but the FTC denied this, saying Cohen was incorrect about the agency’s financial situation. The trial is the result of a lawsuit filed in 2023 accusing Amazon of enrolling consumers in its Prime program without their consent and making it difficult to cancel subscriptions.
