US Launches Airstrikes on Yemen’s Sanaa Targeting Houthi Rebels

US President Donald Trump has authorized airstrikes on Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, targeting Iranian-backed Houthi rebels. The strikes aim to stop attacks on shipping along a vital maritime corridor. Nine civilians were killed in the blasts, according to the Houthis.

Trump said the operation is aimed at protecting American shipping and restoring navigational freedom. He warned Iran against supporting the rebel group, vowing to hold the country accountable for its actions. This move comes two weeks after Trump offered a path to restart talks on Iran’s nuclear program.

The airstrikes follow a Houthi declaration that they would resume attacks on Israeli vessels in response to Israel’s blockade of Gaza. No further attacks have been reported since then. US officials confirmed that American forces carried out the strikes, which are believed to be the first operation under Trump’s second administration.

The Houthis vowed retaliation against the US and described Sanaa as “Gaza’s shield.” The region has seen relative calm in recent times, with previous airstrikes launched by the US, Israel, and Britain.
