Israel has carried out strikes in the Gaza Strip, killing at least nine Palestinians, despite a two-month-old truce with Hamas. The latest attacks were blamed on militants threatening Israeli forces.
Since the cease-fire began in January, Israel’s military has conducted constant strikes in Gaza, accusing militants of placing explosive devices and flying drones near its troops. However, Hamas claims these actions have killed over 150 people, including some civilians.
On Saturday, the Israeli military struck a drone-operating device and a vehicle carrying those who had arrived to collect equipment. The identities of those killed cannot be verified.
Hamas accuses Israel of violating the agreement by continuing military operations. A truce is still elusive, with negotiations between Israel and Hamas stalled. The war in Gaza began after a deadly attack on southern Israel in October 2023, which killed over 1,200 civilians.
Since then, Israel’s military campaign has resulted in over 48,000 deaths, including thousands of children. Israeli leaders say they will not end the war until Hamas is toppled and the territory no longer poses a threat. However, a permanent end to the conflict, hostage releases, and full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza are still on the negotiating table.
Mediators, including the US, Qatar, and Egypt, have struggled to reach an agreement due to disagreements between the two sides. Israel remains deployed in a buffer zone inside Gaza and along its border with Egypt, despite the cease-fire’s terms.
The situation remains tense, with the truce facing significant challenges ahead.
