Pope Francis remains stable in his recovery after being hospitalized for bronchitis that turned into pneumonia. The Vatican’s Holy See Press Office released a medical update on Saturday, confirming the progress made by the pope over the past week.
The 88-year-old pope was working from the Gemelli hospital and completed a three-year reform project aimed at making the Church more welcoming. He also spent time praying, resting, and participating in spiritual exercises.
Medical experts note that Francis’s condition has improved significantly, but his health remains complex due to a pulmonary infection he suffered as a child, which led to part of his lung being removed. The Vatican says the pope is now “out of danger from death” and will continue to receive medical therapy and physiotherapy to aid his recovery.
The nuns working at the Vatican’s switchboard are fielding calls from concerned individuals, who are eager to know about the pope’s health. Sister Anthony, who runs the operation, expressed her concern for the children who feel like they are waiting to hear news about their “father.” The Vatican will release updates only when there is new information.
