Ceasefire Talks Stalled as Tensions Rise in Middle East

Ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas remain stalled, with both sides showing little willingness to compromise. The US has proposed a “bridge proposal” that includes the release of 11 captives, but Hamas is pushing for talks on implementing the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.

The proposal would extend the current ceasefire period to mid-April, allowing time to negotiate a permanent deal. However, Israel wants to focus on extending the existing agreement rather than negotiating a new one.

Hamas has accused Israel of “blackmail” over its decision to reinstate the Gaza blockade. The group had threatened to resume attacks on Israeli ships if the blockade remained in place.

Meanwhile, tensions are escalating in Yemen, where US air raids have killed at least 31 people and injured over 100. Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has urged the US to halt the military strikes, calling for dialogue instead of force.

In Lebanon, Israel claimed responsibility for a deadly air attack that killed two Hezbollah fighters. The Israeli military says it is targeting militants who “violated the understandings between Israel and Lebanon”.

The situation in Gaza remains dire, with hundreds of fishermen losing their livelihoods due to Israeli attacks on fishing boats and ports. Palestinian leaders are warning of potential military escalation as talks on a ceasefire extension continue to stall.

Iran has been providing support to Yemen’s Houthi rebels, with Iranian officials calling for the US to stop its strikes. The head of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Hossein Salami, has threatened “decisive” responses if the US continues to strike Yemen.
