A 54-year-old man from Maryland has been banned from flying with United Airlines after attacking a gate agent at Washington Dulles International Airport on Thursday. The violent altercation, caught on video, occurred when the passenger was trying to board a flight that had already been canceled.
Christopher Stuart Crittenden, a retired fire department captain, was arrested and charged with assault and disorderly conduct. The victim, a United Airlines employee, suffered injuries but has not been named.
Witnesses claim Crittenden said “I’m done with this bulls—” before punching the agent, who was trying to stop him from approaching the gate. The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers issued a statement condemning the attack and promising to protect airline employees from growing hostility.
The incident is the latest in a string of violent incidents targeting customer service representatives at airlines across the US.
