US Launces Strikes Against Houthi Targets in Yemen

US President Donald Trump has ordered military strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen, vowing to use “overwhelming lethal force” until the group stops shipping attacks on American vessels. The strikes come days after Houthi rebels said they would resume attacks on Israeli ships.

The US launched multiple strikes in Yemen, targeting areas controlled by the Houthi rebels, who are backed and supplied by Iran. At least 13 people were killed and nine wounded in the attacks, according to reports.

Trump described the Houthi group as “terrorists” and said their attacks would not be tolerated. He also warned that continued Houthi attacks on US military and commercial shipping vessels in the Red Sea would have consequences.

The move follows a previous designation of the Houthis as a Foreign Terrorist Organization by Trump in January, which was reinstated after former President Joe Biden removed them from the list in 2021.

US officials say they are prepared to extend the campaign against the Houthis from the air and sea for potentially weeks, depending on how Iran responds. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a call with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, warning that continued Houthi attacks would not be tolerated.
