French President Emmanuel Macron plans to launch a charm offensive within the European Union (EU) to persuade member states to switch away from buying US defense equipment in favor of local, European alternatives.
Macron has long advocated for directing defense spending towards EU products. He aims to convince other European countries that are currently purchasing American-made defense systems to opt for locally produced options instead. Macron’s goal is to change the habit of EU nations “buying American” and encourage them to choose from a range of local suppliers.
