Scientists Bend Water Waves to Manipulate Floating Objects

Researchers from NTU Singapore have developed a technique to merge and control water waves in a water tank. By combining waves, they created complex patterns that manipulated floating objects such as foam balls and ping pong balls. The patterns, which resembled tweezers or tractor beams, were able to hold the balls in place or make them spin and move in precise circular paths.

This innovative method opens up new possibilities for using water waves. It can be scaled down to precisely control particles the size of cells for experiments, or scaled up to guide boats along a desired path on the water.
