US Astronauts Stranded in Space to Return Home on Tuesday

A pair of US astronauts, Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, will return to Earth on Tuesday evening aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon craft. The duo was stranded on the International Space Station for over nine months due to propulsion issues with their Boeing Starliner spacecraft. They were initially expected to land on Wednesday but NASA has moved up the landing date to 5:57 pm Tuesday.

NASA astronaut Nick Hague and Roscosmos cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov will also return with Wilmore and Williams. The astronauts’ prolonged stay was significantly longer than the standard six-month ISS rotation, but much shorter than some previous space records.

The unexpected nature of their prolonged stay has garnered sympathy and interest from fans, who were forced to receive additional clothing and personal care items because they hadn’t packed enough.
