Third Measles Case Confirmed in Houston Infant This Year

A measles case in a newborn has been confirmed as the third in Houston this year, according to the Houston Health Department. The infant was hospitalized but has since recovered at home. Officials are investigating the case and trying to identify potential exposures.

Measles cases in Houston have increased, with the first two reported in adults who traveled internationally. Those individuals were not vaccinated. A measles outbreak is also being reported in Texas’ Panhandle region.

The state’s outbreak count stands at 259 cases since late January 2025, with 34 hospitalizations. The only measles-related death this year was a school-age child from Lubbock who passed away after being hospitalized.
