A doctor has revealed that Gene Hackman’s wife, Betsy Arakawa, did not die on February 11 as police initially claimed. Instead, she called the clinic where Dr. Josiah Child worked two days later, on February 12.
Dr. Child told the Daily Mail that Arakawa had made an appointment for herself at the clinic but canceled it just two days before due to her husband being unwell. She then failed to show up for the appointment and did not exhibit any symptoms of respiratory distress, contradicting the initial claim of hantavirus as the cause of death.
The doctor also disputed that hantavirus is a likely cause of Arakawa’s death, stating that patients with this diagnosis typically die in hospital, whereas Arakawa spoke to his office multiple times without showing signs of distress.
Arakawa was reportedly healthy on February 11, visiting a grocery store and pharmacy before returning home. Her body was found on February 26 along with Hackman’s, and authorities initially ruled both deaths as natural causes. However, the doctor’s revelations raise further questions about the circumstances surrounding Arakawa’s death.
