Elton John has been sharing his concerns about mortality after a recent health scare left him blind in one eye. The 77-year-old music icon recently completed his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour to focus on raising his family with husband David Furnish. However, he now faces the reality that he may not see his two sons get married.
Furnish shared his feelings about Elton’s mortality during an upcoming Disney+ documentary, “Elton John: Never too Late.” The 62-year-old confessed that being around people who have a positive outlook on life makes him confront the harsh truth. “That really upset me,” Furnish said. “Because in my mind I sort of think Elton is going to live forever.”
Furnish met John in 1993 and they were in a civil partnership until they married in 2014. The couple has been through many experiences together, including the emotional moment when Elton lost his eyesight during a performance at the Dominion Theatre in London on December 1.
Elton also revealed that he’s struggling to adapt to his new reality after losing his eyesight. He told ABC News that not being able to see the lyrics while performing has made him question whether he can continue making music. However, he showed appreciation for Furnish’s support during a recent performance, thanking him for coming and saying it sounded good.
Despite his health issues, Elton remains grateful for his family and husband, acknowledging that John has been his “rock” throughout this challenging time.
