Mirra Andreeva’s Coach Conchita Martinez Caused Frustration During Indian Wells Final

Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva won her biggest title at 17 years old after coming back from a set down to beat Aryna Sabalenka in the Indian Wells final. However, during the match, coach Conchita Martinez’s advice caused frustration for the young player.

Andreeva lost the first set but bounced back to win the title with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Sabalenka. When asked about the match by Sky Sports, Andreeva revealed that she had considered screaming at Martinez after feeling overwhelmed by her advice.

“I was super nervous and she tried to cheer me up,” Andreeva said. “At one point I thought I was going to scream at her, but I didn’t because it’s not nice and out of respect for her.”

Andreeva’s victory marks the first time she has beaten Sabalenka since the 2024 French Open. The Russian player now has three titles under her belt at just 17 years old.

Sabalenka, on the other hand, was disappointed with her performance, claiming that she let Andreeva back into the match after making unforced errors on important points. “I made a lot of mistakes and didn’t find my rhythm,” Sabalenka said.
