New MacBook Air M4 vs. Last Year’s MacBook Pro: Which is Better?

Apple has released its latest MacBook Air, featuring Apple’s M4 chip, now available on digital shelves. As a tech reviewer who’s spent years evaluating Windows laptops, I’ve come to realize that many users still opt for MacBooks as their primary work laptop. The main reason? Seamless integration with iPhones.

So, the question remains: Which is better, this new MacBook Air or last year’s MacBook Pro? In my opinion, most people just need a laptop for everyday tasks and should get the MacBook Air. It delivers premium performance at an affordable price, making it perfect for basic tasks.

However, if you’re working with large files, such as photos, videos, or audio, the MacBook Pro is the better choice. Although both laptops share similar specs, including Apple’s Liquid Retina display and options for RAM and storage, the Air is a more reasonable option that still delivers power to match most users’ needs.

The new MacBook Air M4 comes in two sizes: 13-inch and 15-inch. While the larger model has a bigger screen and more speakers, it’s also heavier. The Air offers the same features as the Pro at a lower price point, starting at $999 compared to the entry-level Pro’s $1,599.

Ultimately, the trade-off is minimal. If you don’t need advanced specs or high-end features, the MacBook Air M4 is an excellent choice. But if you’re willing to invest in a more powerful machine with upgraded specs, the MacBook Pro may be worth it. Just make sure you understand what those upgrades bring and whether they align with your needs.
