Google has announced that it will be removing 7 more features from its Google Assistant on Android phones, in addition to the initial 18 feature removals revealed at the start of 2024.
The affected features include voice control over photo frame settings and ambient screen settings, as well as the ability to translate live conversations with someone who doesn’t speak the user’s language using interpreter mode. The assistant will still be able to translate individual words or phrases from one language to another.
In response to the removal of these features, Google has introduced a new feature called Routines, which allows users to schedule daily updates from their Assistant, such as weather forecasts. Users can also ask their Assistant to set reminders for birthdays and Family Bell announcements.
Additionally, Google’s car accessories that use Bluetooth or AUX plugs will continue to work with the assistant. However, it’s worth noting that the removal of these features may not be a major loss for users, especially considering the availability of alternative solutions through Routines and other Google services.
The changes are part of a broader effort by Google to refine its Assistant service and ensure it remains competitive in the market. The company had initially announced 18 feature removals across Android, smart displays, and speakers at the start of 2024, and has since added 7 more capabilities to be removed.
