Apple’s Foldable iPhone Rumors Gain Steam, Expected in 2026

Rumors of an Apple foldable iPhone have been circulating for years, with some predicting a launch as early as 2018. While recent reports suggest the release is now targeted for 2026 at the earliest, caution and skepticism are advised due to the nature of Apple rumors.

According to multiple sources, including The Information and Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple’s first folding phone will have its major design and specs finalized in mid-2025, with production targeting late 2026. This would result in a launch between 2026 and early 2027.

Manufacturing the foldable iPhone is expected to be complex and expensive, leading to limited initial production volumes. A second model in late 2027 may see higher production numbers. Design-wise, the phone will reportedly feature a “book” style fold with a titanium alloy hinge, similar to the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold.

The folding iPhone is expected to have a 7.8-inch inside display when unfolded, a 5.5-inch outer display, and dimensions of up to 9.5mm thick when folded and 4.5mm when unfolded. Specifications are still unknown, but it’s likely to feature an A20 or A20 Pro processor.

The phone will reportedly lack Face ID due to its thin nature, with Touch ID instead being integrated into the side button. Two rear cameras, a standard wide-angle and ultrawide, as well as two front-facing cameras (one for each state of the phone), are expected. Pricing is estimated to start at $2,000 or more, making it an ultra-premium model.

While these rumors have gained traction, it’s essential to approach them with caution due to the complex nature of Apple’s product development process.
