Apple’s discontinued MacBook Pro feature, the Touch Bar, is getting a new life through a Kickstarter campaign for the Flexbar, a standalone product that builds upon its ideas. The creators of the Flexbar claim it addresses the limitations and issues faced by the original Touch Bar.
The key to the Flexbar’s design lies in its versatility, compatibility with various devices (Mac, Windows, mobile), and absence of sacrificing physical function keys. Its features include a 2K AMOLED display, USB-C connectivity, non-slip silicone pads, an aluminum build, and customizable tools.
Pricing ranges from $119 to $149, depending on the backer’s tier, with an expected MSRP of $179 upon release. As with any Kickstarter campaign, potential backers should proceed with caution due to the high risk of hardware failures or software issues.
While some may view the Flexbar as a promising successor to the Touch Bar, others remain skeptical, citing execution struggles and the need for review and testing before making a decision.
