A US-based pet food company, Savage Pet, has issued a nationwide recall of two types of chicken products due to potential contamination with H5N1, or bird flu. The affected products include 66 boxes of 84 oz. chicken and 74 boxes of 21 oz. chicken.
The recalled items were distributed in California, Colorado, New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington. In February, a cat in Colorado tested positive for H5N1, prompting the company to take action. Laboratory tests revealed non-negative results, indicating possible contamination. The products were subsequently removed from the market while awaiting final test results.
Retailers who received the affected lot code were notified on February 17 to return the products for proper destruction. Savage Pet is advising customers not to feed or sell the recalled products, and consumers are urged to immediately return them for a full refund.
