New data from RevenueCat’s 2025 State of Subscription Apps report reveals that the majority of mobile apps struggle to generate $1,000 in monthly revenue within two years. The report, which covers over $10 billion in revenue across more than a billion transactions, found that only around 20% of apps reach this milestone, while 5% exceed $10,000 per month.
The data shows that revenue drop-off is steep, with many categories losing half of their apps at each milestone. However, some app categories, such as photo and gaming apps, have a higher percentage of newly launched apps reaching the $1,000 mark within two years.
Notably, education apps take longer to reach this milestone, requiring around 79 days on average. The report also suggests that apps in certain categories, like shopping and travel, find it harder to achieve lofty monthly revenue goals of $10,000 per month.
