Kurdish astrophotographer Darya Kawa Mirza has captured a high-resolution image of the Moon, claiming it to be the clearest and sharpest lunar image ever taken. By stacking 81,000 images, Mirza achieved a 159.7-megapixel resolution, revealing lunar surface details that had never been seen before with such clarity.
Mirza spent four days monitoring the Moon, carefully selecting moments to capture each phase and merging them into a composite image. The resulting photo reveals a detailed topography of the lunar surface, including shadowed regions that are usually difficult to observe.
To capture this extraordinary image, Mirza used specialized equipment, including a Skywatcher Dobson telescope and a ZWO camera. He utilized AI-free imaging techniques to enhance clarity and reduce atmospheric distortion.
The image also features enhanced color processing, which highlights mineral compositions on the lunar surface. While these colors are not visible in natural conditions, they allow scientists and enthusiasts to distinguish between different elements present on the lunar surface.
Mirza’s achievement marks a significant step forward in amateur astrophotography, proving that with the right equipment and skill, stunning high-resolution space imagery is possible without the need for multi-million-dollar observatories. This project also highlights the ongoing evolution of manual imaging techniques in a world increasingly influenced by AI-driven image processing.
