Colin Farrell to Star in ‘Sgt. Rock’ Comic Book Adaptation

Colin Farrell is reportedly set to star as the lead character, Sgt. Rock, in an upcoming DC comic book adaptation film. The movie, directed by Luca Guadagnino, marks the first attempt to bring the character to the screen. Sgt. Rock, a World War II hero and combat fighter, has been attempted to be adapted before with actors like Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Farrell’s involvement in the project comes after his notable role as the Penguin in 2022’s “The Batman.” He reprised the role in the HBO spinoff “The Penguin,” earning awards from SAG and the Golden Globes. The new movie is expected to begin shooting this summer in England, with Justin Kuritzkes penning the screenplay.

James Gunn and Peter Safran are developing the adaptation under DC’s leadership team, describing it as a straightforward war film aimed at demonstrating the range of content they will produce under the DC banner. This film is part of Gunn’s upcoming “Superman” project, set to debut in July, marking a new era for the Warner Bros. comic book studio.
