Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has unveiled a new platform capable of charging vehicles at speeds of 1,000 kilowatts (kW), nearly twice as fast as Tesla’s superchargers. The “super e-platform” can charge cars to travel 400 kilometers in just five minutes, addressing concerns over rapid charging time for electric vehicle owners.
Founder Wang Chuanfu stated that the company aims to solve user charging anxiety by achieving charging times comparable to refueling petrol vehicles. BYD plans to deploy this new technology in two new EV models and build approximately 4,000 ultra-fast charging stations across China.
