Devon Sawa Open to Returning to Final Destination Franchise

Devon Sawa, the original star of the horror franchise Final Destination, has expressed his openness to returning to the series in some capacity. As the 25th anniversary of the first film approaches, Sawa, now 46, spoke about his past roles and the legacy of Final Destination with PEOPLE.

In a cameo appearance in 2011’s Final Destination 5, Sawa revealed his character had died between the events of the first two films. However, he has stated that he would “for sure return” to the franchise if the opportunity arose. This sentiment is not unusual for horror franchises, where characters’ deaths do not guarantee their absence in future installments.

Sawa’s experience with being revived after on-screen deaths can be seen in his role in the Syfy/USA Network series Chucky. He has also appeared in other iconic horror films and series, including Idle Hands.

Sawa recently praised the late Tony Todd, a costar from Final Destination, describing him as “cool” and “a great guy.” The actor shared a heartwarming anecdote about meeting Todd on a plane, highlighting their friendship.

The latest installment in the franchise, Final Destination: Bloodlines, is set to release on May 16. Sawa has stated that he hears it’s “phenomenal,” although he does not appear in the film. When asked about his potential return to Final Destination, Sawa left the door open for future possibilities, saying, “Maybe we will revisit Final Destination one day, but you never know.”
