Royce Lewis Out with Hamstring Injury for Opening Day

Royce Lewis, the Minnesota Twins’ third baseman, will miss Opening Day due to a strained hamstring. Lewis downplayed the severity of the injury, which was confirmed by a magnetic resonance imaging exam on Monday. He suffered the strain while running out a ground ball during Sunday’s Grapefruit League game against Boston.

Lewis compared his current injury to a similar quadriceps injury he sustained last year, but said this one feels more like tightness rather than a severe cramp. The Twins have not yet determined how many games Lewis will miss, as they are still evaluating the extent of his treatment plan.

“I was able to walk off on my own power,” Lewis said after the game, showing that he did not suffer a severe enough injury to require assistance. However, he acknowledged that missing Opening Day is difficult for him, particularly since it was something he wanted to participate in.

The Twins will now focus on helping Lewis recover and return to the field as soon as possible. With several other players vying for a spot in the lineup, Lewis’s absence will be felt, but his positive attitude suggests he is confident that he will make a comeback soon.
