Amazon to End Echo Privacy Setting for Voice Recordings

Amazon is removing an opt-in feature that allowed users to stop sending their voice recordings to the company’s cloud later this month. The “Do Not Send Voice Recordings” setting, available on select Echo devices, will be replaced by a new “Don’t Save Recordings” feature.

Starting March 28, the updated setting will automatically delete voice requests and send them to Amazon’s secure cloud beforehand, regardless of whether it is enabled or not. Users with this setting on will also lose access to voice ID, which allows Alexa to recognize their voice.

According to Amazon, only a small percentage of Echo owners (less than 0.03%) opted for the “Do Not Send Voice Recordings” feature. The company claims that the change does not affect its commitment to protecting customer privacy and keeping data secure.

However, some users are expressing concerns over the change on social media, with many arguing that it changes the terms of the agreement after purchasing an Echo device. Amazon’s decision has sparked debate about the company’s intentions and priorities.
