Gasoline prices in South Carolina have remained stable for a second week, with the state’s average price holding steady at $2.67 per gallon. However, declining gas prices across the country, particularly in the Lowcountry region, may signal trouble on the horizon.
According to GasBuddy’s survey of over 3,000 stations in South Carolina, the lowest price for gas was $2.29 and the highest was $3.09. Nationally, the average price fell by 1.3 cents per gallon, bringing it down to an average of $3.02 per gallon.
Experts warn that this decline may be a sign of economic slowdown, which can lead to decreased demand for gasoline and other refined products like diesel and jet fuel. While gas prices are currently low, they could potentially rise again if economic conditions improve.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, notes that the decline in gas prices is not without warning signs. He cautions that this decrease may be a precursor to lower prices, but also suggests that it could signal more challenging months ahead.
