The UK has announced a “significant number” of countries are willing to provide peacekeeping troops in Ukraine if a peace deal with Russia is reached. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s spokesperson stated that over 30 countries, including Britain and France, will participate in the coalition of nations offering support to Ukraine.
The proposal aims to address US President Donald Trump’s efforts to negotiate a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. Military planning meetings are underway to determine how troops can be deployed effectively while allowing for self-defense. The spokesperson noted that even though Russia has rejected NATO soldiers being stationed in Ukraine, they did not protest when North Korea was deployed last year.
The coalition of the willing will work together with military planners in Britain to discuss truce guarantees. Meanwhile, Britain and France continue to push the US for security guarantees to deter future Russian aggression. The initiative is seen as a significant step towards finding peace in Ukraine, with multiple countries committing their support to protect Ukrainian sovereignty.
