WV Gov. Demands NCAA Transparency Amid Selection Snub

West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey has called for increased transparency in the NCAA selection process, after his state’s team was snubbed from the tournament. The Mountaineers, with a 19-13 record and six Quad 1 wins, were left out despite losing to last-place Colorado in the Big 12 tournament.

Governor Morrisey has asked his attorney general to investigate the NCAA’s selection process, citing what he believes is a “miscarriage of justice” and “robbery at the highest levels.” He also referenced reported incentives that North Carolina Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham would receive by the Tar Heels making the tournament.

Cunningham defended his team’s inclusion, stating that it was based on favorable metrics such as a 8-0 mark against Quad 2 teams. However, West Virginia Attorney General JB McCuskey has expressed skepticism about the process, saying “we need to know what they are looking for” in order to plan for future seasons.

The controversy highlights concerns about corruption and transparency in college sports. The NCAA has faced criticism in recent years over its handling of team selection and postseason play. As the investigation into the West Virginia snub continues, it remains to be seen whether the NCAA will provide greater clarity on its selection process.
