A partial solar eclipse will occur on March 29, 2025, as the Moon passes in front of and partially blocks the Sun. The event is expected to be visible from parts of North America, Europe, Africa, northern Asia, and small parts of South America.
Viewers can expect to see a partial solar eclipse in sections of Greenland and Iceland, with the Sun appearing like a crescent or with a piece taken out of it. However, due to the Sun’s partial coverage, observers must use proper eye protection at all times while watching this eclipse.
The Sun is never completely covered, and looking directly at the eclipse without proper eye protection can cause serious eye injury. Safe solar viewing glasses or handheld solar viewers that comply with the ISO 12312-2 international standard are recommended. Additionally, using a pinhole projector or indirect viewing methods is also safe.
During this partial solar eclipse, sunspots on the Sun may be visible through safe solar filters. Observers can use an indirect viewing method to safely view the projected image of the Sun onto a nearby surface. Leaves on trees can act as natural pinholes for this purpose.
Note: It’s essential to follow all safety guidelines when watching a partial solar eclipse, and regular sunglasses do not provide sufficient protection for viewing the Sun.
