Amazon’s devices chief Panos Panay has teased plans for new Alexa+ hardware across various categories, including speakers, smart displays, and wearables. The goal is to achieve “perfection in every single product that we ship,” with a focus on more affordable, mid-range, and premium devices.
Panay aims to improve battery life, sound quality, and security features in portable devices. He also promises “the best security available” for future Echo smart speakers and smart displays. The first devices featuring Alexa+ are expected to arrive in the fall of 2025, including new Echo smart speakers and smart displays.
The new lineup will include a wider range of device types, such as smart glasses, augmented reality glasses, and wrist-worn devices. Panos confirmed that hardware upgrades are coming to Amazon’s current wearables, including Echo Frames and Echo Buds. The company is doubling down on its devices lineup, with a focus on providing functionality and helpfulness for customers.
The unveiling of Alexa+ was likely done to establish the new platform as the central feature of future devices. Panos stated that he wants to envision what’s next for AI devices, with some “incredible” options. The company will not flood the market with new devices in the fall, but rather take a more tempered approach.
With Amazon’s focus on improving its devices lineup, it remains to be seen how many new products will be released this year.
