Actor Chris O’Donnell is joining the cast of ABC’s 9-1-1: Nashville in a series regular role. He will play Captain Don Sharpe, a rugged fire captain and rodeo rider who runs Nashville’s busiest firehouse with his son. O’Donnell, known for his long-running role on NCIS: Los Angeles, is the first cast member to join the 20th Television and Ryan Murphy Television drama, which received a straight-to-series order from ABC last month.
The new series will premiere during the 2025-26 season and is executive produced by Ryan Murphy, Tim Minear, Rashad Raisani, Brad Falchuk, and Angela Bassett. O’Donnell’s experience playing a special agent on NCIS: Los Angeles may seem like a departure from his new role, but he has also appeared in a range of films, including Scent of a Woman and Batman Forever.
O’Donnell will be joining other established stars, including Angela Bassett and Peter Krause, who are both known for their work on other popular TV shows. The question remains whether viewers will tune in to watch a show with relatively unknown actors or if the presence of well-known stars like O’Donnell will attract a larger audience.
