Commanders Eye Explosive Edge Rusher in Mock Draft

The Washington Commanders have another chance to improve their roster after last season’s surprising appearance in the NFC Championship. With former No. 2 overall pick Jayden Daniels in the backfield, the team now looks to address its defensive line weaknesses with a crucial draft pick.

Draft expert Garrett Podell has identified Boston College’s Donovan Ezeiruaku as a top prospect for Washington, despite being selected at No. 29 overall. The edge rusher boasts impressive athleticism, recording the fastest three-cone drill and 20-yard shuttle among all defensive linemen in the combine.

Ezeiruaku’s college production was outstanding, with 16.5 sacks and 20.5 tackles for loss in his final season. He excelled at using his quickness and agility to win at the top of the rush or make stops in the backfield. However, some concerns arise regarding his size, which may hinder him against bigger opponents.

The Commanders’ defensive line issues were evident last season, particularly against the run. Ezeiruaku’s playing style might not completely solve these problems, but he can contribute to the team’s pass-rushing capabilities. As a rookie, he won’t be expected to carry the load alone, and his athleticism makes him an attractive option for Washington.

Podell believes Ezeiruaku has “three-down value,” suggesting he can excel in various game situations. The staff’s ability to find players who fit their system will be crucial in determining Ezeiruaku’s success with the team.
