Trump Administration Cuts Funding for Diabetic Study

The US government has canceled funding for a 30-year nationwide study tracking patients with prediabetes and diabetes, according to researchers. The landmark Diabetes Prevention Program was halted due to lack of confirmation from the National Institutes of Health on why the grant was cut.

Columbia University had been managing funding for the program since 2022, but more than 90% of the $80 million in funding over five years is distributed to other research sites across the US. The cancellation comes amid efforts by top officials to reduce chronic conditions like diabetes and prediabetes.
