US President Donald Trump announced Monday that he has nominated airline executive Bryan Bedford to lead the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Bedford, CEO of Indiana-based regional airline Republic Airways since 2007, will need Senate confirmation before taking on the role. The nomination comes amid a shake-up at the FAA, which has been working under the Trump administration’s overhaul efforts following a midair collision in January that killed 67 people.
The President expressed his approval for Bedford’s appointment, stating he brings over three decades of experience in aviation and executive leadership to the position. Bedford will work closely with Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy to reform the agency, safeguard exports, and ensure passenger safety.
Bedford is the latest addition to a series of appointments made by Trump, including new board members for various military academies such as the United States Air Force Academy, the Naval Academy, and West Point’s Military Academy.
