Westchester Soccer Club Wins U.S. Open Cup Opener 1-0

Westchester Soccer Club earned its first professional victory in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup by defeating FC Motown 1-0 on Tuesday night at MSU Soccer Park in Montclair, N.J.

The game’s lone goal came from forward Juan Obragon in the 81st minute, who converted a penalty kick after FC Motown goalkeeper Joshua Schaffer guessed correctly but was unable to save it due to the force of the shot.

FC Motown had one final chance to equalize in the 89th minute, but Israel Dos Santos Neto’s attempt from just outside the penalty area went narrowly to the left of the net. The win marked Westchester’s first professional victory this year.

Westchester has played only two games professionally so far, including a 1-1 draw against Greenville Triumph SC on March 8 in USL League One. Its next game is scheduled for Saturday, March 29 at Texoma.
