5 Female NCAA Tournament Stars to Watch

The NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament is upon us, and while JuJu Watkins is undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with, there are other talented players who can make life unbearable for their opponents. Here are five women’s NCAA tournament players to watch this season.

Mikayla Blakes (Vanderbilt) is a rising star in college basketball, with a nation-leading 23.2 points per game. The freshman set the single-game scoring record with 55 points against Auburn and has tormented top teams like Tennessee, leading Vanderbilt to a crucial SEC tournament win.

UConn’s Paige Bueckers is arguably the most complete player in college basketball, excelling at scoring, setting up teammates for easy baskets, defending, and taking care of the ball. With a remarkable 3.90 assist-to-turnover ratio, opponents will need to find a way to beat her rather than relying on brute force.

Florida State’s Ta’Niya Latson is a scoring machine, leading the nation with 24.9 points per game. What sets her apart, however, is her exceptional court vision and playmaking skills, with an average of 4.7 assists per game. Latson’s defensive prowess is also noteworthy, with 2.2 steals and 13 blocks this season.

Harvard’s Harmoni Turner has been on a tear in the Ivy League, averaging over 31 points per game so far this month. The senior scored a career-high 44 points against Princeton to lift Harvard to an Ivy Madness title game appearance. In the championship game, Turner continued her dominance with a game-high 24 points.

TCU’s Hailey Van Lith has redeemed herself after a disappointing season at LSU last year. Now at TCU, she’s averaging 17.9 points per game and boasting a career-best 46% shooting percentage. Van Lith’s impressive all-around play has earned her a spot among the top players to watch in the NCAA tournament.
