Gemini App Ditches Google Account Requirement for Signing In

The Gemini app has undergone a significant change in its signing-in process. As of today, users can access the chat interface directly by visiting gemini.google.com in Incognito mode without needing to sign in with their Google account. This update is similar to the behavior of Google Search.

When signed out, users are greeted with “Meet Gemini, your personal AI assistant,” a change from the previous “Hello, [name]” greeting. The model picker feature has also been updated, showcasing Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking, Deep Research, and Personalization, but users must sign in to explore the newest models.

However, signing in is still required for uploading files, accessing chat history, and using the app on Android devices. To use Gemini’s latest features, including free Deep Research, users will need to create a Google account or sign in with an existing one.

This change aims to provide users with a more streamlined experience while still maintaining security and functionality. As Gemini continues to evolve, it is essential for users to stay informed about the latest updates and changes to its features and requirements.
