Trump Pushes to Privatize USPS Amid Service Concerns

President Donald Trump has reignited a push to privatize the United States Postal Service (USPS), sparking worry among postal workers and advocates who fear it could harm services in some communities. The American Postal Workers Union (APWU) has held over 260 rallies nationwide to preserve the USPS.

The USPS, an independent agency that funds itself without taxpayer dollars, provides universal service, reaching anyone regardless of income or location. However, Trump has criticized the postal service, saying it’s a “tremendous loser” for the country and accused of losing money.

Union representatives warn that privatization could lead to increased prices and reduced services. They point out that billionaires might profit from the USPS, while lower-income areas may suffer. The AP reported that Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency planned to cut 10,000 jobs from the USPS last month, citing efforts to improve efficiency and address “big problems”.
