Actress and comedian Rosie O’Donnell expressed hope for an investigation into Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 election, citing the unusual circumstances of his win.
In a recent appearance on The Late Late Show in Ireland, O’Donnell stated that as an American and a believer in democracy, she wants to examine the reasons behind Trump’s success. She suggested that unfair influence may have been used by someone like Elon Musk or another powerful figure, but did not name them directly.
O’Donnell’s move to Ireland was motivated by her perceived animosity from Trump, who has long targeted her. The comedian recalled an incident during a 2016 presidential debate where Trump mocked her and interrupted the moderator.
During a St. Patrick’s Day meeting with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin, Trump made a joke about O’Donnell’s move to Ireland, saying she was “better off not knowing” her. O’Donnell subsequently wrote an apology letter to Martin and received a thank-you response.
O’Donnell has stated that the first weeks of Trump’s second term have been “terrifying,” particularly due to the Supreme Court’s granting him significant powers. She believes this shift in power is contrary to American values and has caused her significant stress and anxiety.
Since relocating to Ireland, O’Donnell reported feeling better without the weight of political stress in the US.
