Why Switch 2 Will Be the Ultimate Nintendo Console

The world of Nintendo fans has been eagerly waiting for news on the upcoming Switch 2 console. With the April Nintendo Direct just around the corner, anticipation is at an all-time high. As a huge fan myself, I’m confident that Switch 2 will be the ultimate Nintendo console.

One key factor contributing to this confidence is Nintendo Switch Online, which has amassed an impressive library of 182 games with a regular subscription or 290 with the Expansion Pack. This includes not just Nintendo titles but also 47 SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis games, covering some of that system’s best. The vast buffet of historical video game nuggets on offer makes NSO an excellent introduction for younger gamers and a treasure trove for grizzled veterans.

Backwards compatibility with the current console is also a major plus. With a lineup of series-bests almost all playable on Switch 2, fans can enjoy timeless classics like Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The prospect of playing iconic games from third-party developers, indie titles, and even potential ports from Sony and Microsoft adds to the excitement.

While there are still unanswered questions about what’s in store for Switch 2, all signs point to it being a comprehensive overview of Nintendo history from launch day. Even with some exceptions – likely related to peripherals and IR sensor modes – the console is shaping up to be the ultimate portal for Nintendo games past, present, and future.

For a fan who’s never taken the plunge on day one (I got a Wii instead), Switch 2 feels like the surest possible bet. The historical library built up over previous systems will all be there, minus some outliers, making it an excellent choice even for those new to the console. With the April Direct bringing more details and potentially major announcements, I’m eagerly anticipating the launch of Switch 2 and getting stuck in on day one whenever that may be.
