Kyle Larson’s weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway was marred by disappointment, as the Hendrick Motorsports driver failed to sweep a triple-header weekend in the Cup Series and Xfinity Series races. Larson, who has won only two races at the track in his career, had hoped to join Kyle Busch as the only drivers to achieve this feat.
Larson got off to a strong start, rallying from a late-race spinout to win the Truck Series on Friday. However, he was on his way to a dominant win in the Xfinity Series before a late spin by Taylor Gray caused a caution with seven laps to go. On the overtime restart, Sam Mayer’s car made contact with Larson’s, costing him the win.
Larson led 132 of 201 laps and finished fourth, adding to his frustrating history at Homestead. He has five top-five finishes in 11 Cup starts at the track but has yet to secure a win since 2022. Last weekend, he was out of the race after slamming into the pit road barriers trying to overtake Ryan Blaney for the lead.
Larson’s struggles at Homestead are reminiscent of his past performances, where mistakes and ill-timed cautions have cost him wins. He feels that he often has the best car or truck but doesn’t come out on top due to various factors.
In Sunday’s pole position, Hendrick Motorsports driver Alex Bowman secured the top spot for the Unrivaled 3-on-3 women’s basketball league Toyota. Odds and ends suggest Larson is the favorite to win, with Tyler Reddick close behind.
