Arm’s ASR (Accuracy Super Resolution) upscaler is now available for mobile devices, offering a much-welcome addition to the Android gaming landscape. This open-source upscaling solution fills a void previously occupied by MetalFX in Apple’s ecosystem.
ASR is built on AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution 2 technology and boasts performance gains of up to 30% in Unreal Engine 5 demos without compromising visuals. The upscaler delivers power savings of 20% with 2x upscaling using the quality preset, making it an attractive option for developers seeking improved graphics quality.
The plugin is already available on Epic’s Fab store for recent Unreal Engine iterations and will be released for Unity later this year. Due to its open-source nature, ASR can be integrated into other game engines, but this will require increased developer efforts.
ASR supports a range of Arm devices, including Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X series SoCs, MediaTek’s Dimensity, Google’s Tensor, Samsung’s Exynos, and Apple’s A-series/M-series hardware. The upscaler is expected to simplify game integration for developers and bring high-quality visuals to mobile gaming.
